"Nine people were killed, mostly as a result of falling trees, including three from the same family in the eastern district of Cumilla," government official Jeboun Nahar told AFP.

Secretary of the Ministry of StruggleDisaster Management Kamrul Ahsan told the media that people evacuated from remote islands and river banks were sent to thousands of multi-storey cyclone shelters. “They spent the night in cyclone shelters,” the department noted.

In some cases, police had to persuade villagers to evacuate, officials said. They wanted to leave their homes, despite the threat.
