Curved Island windows and clear topallow sunlight to pass through during the day, while also allowing passengers to enjoy night views of the city. According to the website, the interior is "sleek and comfortable," with charcoal gray walls, plush seating, wood floors and natural finishes. "The Island" received the GIDA Design Award 2020.

The authors of the concept hope that the people of Hong Kongwill use public transport more than cars. Citizens have been actively avoiding buses and trams since the start of the pandemic, according to dezeen. “This is especially important in densely populated Hong Kong, where social distancing is difficult to achieve,” Andrea Ponti, an Italian-born designer, told the publication.
