The drone filmed a video of its flight through an erupting volcano in Iceland

Last Friday, the Fagradalsfjall volcano near the Icelandic capital of Reykjavik began to erupt for the first time.

800 years after the island statesuffered from thousands of small earthquakes. Such a long period of inactivity led scientists to believe that the volcano was “sleeping,” and therefore the sudden eruption came as a surprise to many. Fortunately, the eruption was small and did not threaten anyone. 

This spectacle was best captured by the ownerdrone pilot Bjorn Steinbekk from Iceland, whose drone flew right through the eruption. Journalists from The Verge noticed footage of the volcanic eruption on Twitter. It looks like the drone made several flights through hot air currents. How it withstood the high temperatures remains unknown.

According to a statement from the Meteorological Officecountry, the volcano with the difficult name Fagradalsfjalla awoke southwest of Reykjavik. A fiery crack 500-700 meters long appeared on a huge mountain of ash and caked lava that had been accumulating for centuries.
