Scientists from the Krasnoyarsk Scientific Center SB RAS and the Siberian Federal University have developed
The researchers used to createphotosensitive layer nanoparticles of unusual shape. Some of them are flattened, while others are elongated with respect to the vector of the incident electric field. The correct arrangement of nanoparticles increases light absorption by almost 10%.
Solar cell created by researchersworks on the basis of the Tamm plasmon polariton principle. This is a bunch of light that is locked between the photosensitive layer and the mirror. It creates an additional light absorption band in the photosensitive layer, the scientists say. In previous similar works, scientists were able to increase the proportion of absorbed light, but not all of it was converted into electricity.
We proposed a new model of an organic solar cell in which the photosensitive layer simultaneously performed two roles: an absorber and a mirror for excitation of the Tamm plasmon polariton.

The scientists add that the new approach to creatingsolar cells not only improves the efficiency of the device, but also reduces its cost. For example, with the help of a new approach, it is possible to completely eliminate the use of metal contacts and minimize design losses.
