The Quantum Network Now Unites NUST MISIS and Moscow Technical UniversityCommunications and
As explained in the press service of the university, quantum communication reduces the likelihood of unnoticed interception of information by attackers, since the laws of quantum mechanics do not allowCopy the states of light particles exchanged between participants in quantum networks.
Therefore, quantum communication is convenient and safe to use for the exchange of cryptographic keys, which are used to encrypt data already in conventional fiber-optic or wireless networks.
The main advantage of our quantum network is that it is open compared to those that have been developed before. This can radically change the market of quantum communications. Both software developers and organizations wishing to connect experimental areas of their infrastructure for the implementation of quantum-protected solutions can participate.
Yuri Kurochkin, Director of the NTI Competence Center for Quantum Communications, NUST MISIS
The first inter-university quantum network based on an open architecture was launched on the basis of two Russian universities. It worksBased on quantum distribution technologies and comprehensive network protection systems: data transmitsalong the fiber optic line.
The quantum network consists of five nodes, whichare located in university buildings. In the future, it can be expanded by joining the project of other educational institutions, as well as commercial and government organizations.
