The Germans tested on the Etna volcano unique robots for exploring the moon

The German Aerospace Center tested unique robots for lunar exploration. Tests

were held in Italy on Mount Etna.

What is known

To be more precise, the Germans immediately testedfour robots: the Scout all-terrain vehicle, the Interact lunar rover and two light rovers (LRU 1 and LRU2). Mount Etna was chosen as the testing site due to its close to lunar conditions.

During testing, robots LRU 1 and LRU 2 evaluatedsoil samples and scanned their composition. At the same time, LRU 2 managed to distribute Wi-Fi. The rover is equipped with a device for laser spectroscopy. With its help, you can find various elements in the plasma, which is formed when a soil sample is exposed to a laser.

Rover Interact on the Moon will be responsible for collectingmaterial. To do this, it was equipped with a camera and a robotic arm with tactile feedback. It is assumed that the capture will allow scientists to "feel" rock samples of the Earth's natural satellite. A reconnaissance drone will also go to the moon. He will survey the area and draw up a map for two rovers.
