The Great Barrier Reef can be viewed with an underwater robot

Created by Australian documentary filmmaker Adam Kropp, the system includes two Osibot Heavy ROVs

(Remotely Operated Vehicles, remotely controlled vehicles). The author of the project plans that eventually a larger fleet of robots will be available to users.

Both ROVs are tied to a base station thatis located 30 km offshore at Arlington Reef in the far north of Queensland, Australia. The station uses solar panels to charge vehicle batteries and also supports the ROV's 4G internet connection.

Using the online portal, userslocated anywhere in the world can control one of the bots - day or night, watching live video from a 1080p wide-angle camera on a home computer screen. The robot can be controlled using the same keyboard keys that are commonly used in games. The maximum distance from the station is 100 m in any direction.

Along with the HD camera, the ROVs are also equipped with LED floodlights. The maximum speed of the vehicle is 3 knots (5.6 km / h).

According to Teleportal.Fish, an hour dive costs between $ 22 and $ 37. The portal also has a less expensive animation simulator where new users have the opportunity to learn how to operate one of the ROVs before trying it out in the real ocean.
