It is noted that the record shows in detail "the sequence of ignition of the afterburner and the subsequent appearance of a blue plume of flame typical of many Russian engines." As an Italian expert explained, an orange plume appears on western planes, and this indicates not so complete combustion of fuel as in Russian engines.

As already mentioned, the specialist was surprised by the unusual retention of afterburner.

“We don’t know which mission or test the Tu-22M3 launched, but, of course, this required more afterburner time than usual,” the expert concluded.
