The legendary A-10C Thunderbolt II aircraft from Moody Air Force Base made its last flight before retiring after 14,125 flight hours

April 5, 2023 the legendary attack aircraft A-10CThunderbolt tail number 80-149 took to the skies for the last time, taking off from Moody Air Force Base in Georgia. The plane went to the base "Davis-Monthan» (Davis Monthan), Arizona.

This A-10C Thunderbolt was the first attack aircraft with"Moody" who has reached retirement age. He has 14,125 flight hours to his credit. The Georgia base became a new home for the 23 Attack Air Force in 2007 when it received 23 A-10 Thunderbolt II aircraft that arrived from North Carolina. All were upgraded to the A-10C.

After 43 years of dedicated service, the A-10 will findnew home in the sunny desert of Arizona. The 309th Aerospace Maintenance and Recovery Squadron will retain parts that can be used to repair other Thunderbolt II aircraft.

In total, the US Air Force will retire 21 A-10 Thunderbolt IIs in 2023. The budget request for fiscal year 2024 calls for the decommissioning of an additional 42 aircraft.
