The Martian probe worked for 8 years instead of half a year. Showing one of his latest photos

Now scientists are finding out the details of the incident. It is unclear whether the Mangalyaan spacecraft has run out of power

(Skt. Mars ship") fuel and battery charge, or communication was lost due to an automatic maneuver that changes the direction of the probe's antenna.

However, several sources confirmed to the publicationTimes of India that it will not be possible to restore the spacecraft. The director of the U R Rao Satellite Center (URSC) will officially announce this soon.

Mission worth 4.5 billion rupees ($56 million, 3,075million rubles), which was launched using a launch vehicle for polar satellites, brought India into the «elite club» nations that are exploring Mars. The fact that the country achieved this on the first try impressed the world community. As well as the fact that the spacecraft worked 16 times longer than expected.

The Mars Orbiter Mission probe carried fivepayloads, including the Mars Methane Sensor (MSM) and the Mars Color Camera (MCC). In total, the ship sent more than 1 TB of data from the Red Planet in its first year of existence and at least 5 TB of data by the time it was five years old.

Photo: Mars Orbiter Mission

As noted by Hi-Tech, two years ago MarsOrbiter Mission took a picture of Phobos, the largest moon of the Red Planet. The photograph was taken on July 1, when the orbiter was approximately 7,200 km from Mars and 4,200 km from Phobos. The generated photograph, one of the last taken by the probe, is a composite image created from six camera frames and color-corrected.

It is believed that Phobos consists of carbonaceouschondrites. The photograph shows impact craters - the Stickney crater. It is the largest crater on the moon, along with other craters Shklovsky, Roche and Grildrig. They are also visible in this photo.
