The mass of a black hole can be different at one time

A group of theoretical physicists led by the University of Queensland explained the unusual properties

black holes, including their amazingthe ability to simultaneously have different masses. Researchers believe they are related to quantum superposition, while simultaneously occupying a spectrum of possible characteristics.

Almost all particles exist in superpositionstates, and characteristics such as spin or momentum are determined only after they have become part of the observation. In their work, the researchers showed that the mass of a black hole behaves in a similar way.

To simulate physicists used the system, consisting of a black hole and a particle with a given mass, taken out of it. Mathematical calculations have shown that the mass of a black hole can simultaneously take on several values located in given "bands". This resembles the energy levels of an atom, the scientists explain.

They believe that the results of the study open the way to new concepts of quantum gravity, including the study of quantum black holes and superimposed space-time.

The universe reveals to us that it is always more strange, mysterious and fascinating than most of us could imagine.
