The number of pi was calculated using a supercomputer to 62.8 trillion digits. This is a new record

Calculating Pi on a supercomputer took 108 days and nine hours. This is almost twice as fast as

a record set by Google in 2019 and 3.5 times faster than the previous recorded world record set by scientists.

Recall that Pi is the ratio of the circumference of a circle to its diameter, with an infinite number of digits following the decimal point.

This achievement is planned to be included in the bookGuinness records. Scientists have not published the complete sequence of numbers, but they showed the last of them - 7817924264. The previous record made it possible to establish 50 trillion digits after the decimal point.

The team from Switzerland said that the experience of calculating the number Pi can also be used in other areas:

  • RNA analysis,
  • simulation of fluid dynamics,
  • text analysis.
