The inscription, written in runes, reads:"He is the man of Odin." The words are believed to refer to its owner, an Iron Age leader or king. Perhaps he considered himself the son of a god. “The wording refers to the central motif, which depicts a person,” the scientists explain. “We have other literary evidence that kings liked to present themselves as descendants of the gods.”

Scientists spent more than a year deciphering the runic inscription on the pendant, which was "hidden" in a gold treasure discovered in Jutland, Denmark, in 2021. In total there was more than a kilogram of gold.
