The Russian strain of COVID-19 is being monitored by the WHO: its potential danger has not been studied

This variant of SARS-CoV-2 was identified in Russia in January 2021. According to published data, WHO is closely monitoring

for the Russian AT.1 strain since June 9: it is on the Alerts for Further Monitoring list. 

The list for further study includes 12options for COVID-19. These options, including the Russian one, are not designated by the letter of the Greek alphabet. There is insufficient information to include them in the Variants of Interest.

Currently causing concern WHO(Variants of Concern) are four strains of COVID-19: "alpha" of British origin, South African variant "beta", first registered in Brazil "gamma" and "Indian" strain "delta".

WHO decided to label the most dangerous strainsletters of the Greek alphabet in early June. The organization explained that before that there was a practice to name them according to the countries where these strains were first discovered.
