The satellite for measuring forest biomass has been mechanically tested

The new satellite could make it possible to measure the height of trees, and thereby forest biomass.

Developers

remind that the key factor in slowing downInformation on the health of the world's forests provides insight into climate change and preventing biodiversity loss. So scientists need to know exactly the state of forests, how much carbon they store and how they are changing.

The new Biomass satellite is designed toto take forest biomass estimates to the next level with a new tool. It will be able to see through foliage and measure the height of trees from an orbital altitude of 650 km.

With this information, it will be possible to calculate the amount of forest biomass and the carbon stored in it.

The satellite is slated to launch in 2023, despite all the challenges posed by the pandemic.
