The rocket booster is equipped with 33 enginesRaptor. The incident happened during a static fire test at the Texas SpaceX Starbase spaceport on July 11 at 17:20 local time (July 12, 00:20 Kyiv time). It took firefighters more than an hour to put out the fire. What caused the explosion is not specified.
Recall that in 2020 and 2021, SpaceXLost four prototype Starship spacecraft during high-altitude test launches. In May 2021, the tests were successful. The launch of Starship into orbit was planned in 2022, but due to the explosion of the rocket booster, it may be delayed.
