As the journalists found out, several Japanesecryptocurrency exchanges still operating in Russia have received inquiries from US diplomats. They ask the Japanese to support their efforts to isolate Russia from the rest of the world after the Russian authorities sent troops to the territory of Ukraine.

Diplomats asked Tokyo to pay attention to the termination of mining in the Irkutsk region. This region is considered attractive for cryptocurrency miners due to cheap electricity.

Following a US request, the Japan Financial Services Agency (FSA) required crypto exchanges to sever any ties they maintain with Russia.
