The United States Air Force has finally conducted its first test of a fifth-generation fighter.
What is known
US Air Force 461st Flight Test Squadrontested the aircraft's capabilities at Edwards Air Force Base in California. As part of the test, the fifth-generation fighter completed a 50-minute flight at an altitude of 10.7 km (35,000 ft) over the Mojave Desert. The F-35 Lightning II was able to reach speeds close to the speed of sound (343 m/s).
TR-3 is a critical upgradefighter electronics. The package is aimed at significantly increasing the processing power of the aircraft core and the amount of memory. The tests, which took place last week in California, became part of a large flight test campaign. It will last throughout 2023.
