The US Marine Corps received the last of 189 AH-1Z Viper helicopters

The number of Viper helicopters of the United States Marine Corps has finally increased to

planned 189 units.

What is known

In 2014, the Navy agreed withBell Textron for the purchase of UH-1Y Venom and AH-1Z Viper helicopters. The contract was valued at almost $340 million. Initially, the service wanted to order 168 modified Viper aircraft, but then changed its plans.

Deliveries of 160 UH-1Y Venom ended in 2018.They replaced the UH-1N Twin Huey. But the last copy of the AH-1Z Viper got to the owner just now. The US Marine Corps now has 349 H-1 helicopters.

In a press release, Bell Textron recalledwhich has been producing H-1 aircraft for the US Armed Forces since 1959. The Marine Corps ordered the first batch of H-1s in 1962. Since first delivery, the AH-1Z and UH-1Y helicopters have logged more than 450,000 flight hours.
