The US Navy received a supercomputer with 176,128 cores, 382 TB of memory and 26 PB of storage

The US Navy Supercomputing Resource Center has received a new supercomputer. It is designed

Penguin Computing under a contract worth $68 million, under which the company must create another supercomputer, but for the US Air Force.

What is known

The supercomputer for the US Navy is called the Nautilus. It was installed at the John Stennis Space Center after the company successfully conducted the final series of tests in April.

The new HPC system received 1352 nodes, eachwhich have up to 128 AMD EPYC Milan generation cores and 256 GB of memory. In total, Nautilus has 176,128 cores, 382 TB of memory and 26 PB (26,000 TB) of storage.

16 nodes are involved in the operation of the HPC complexvisualizations based on NVIDIA A40 chips and 32 AI nodes powered by a quartet of powerful NVIDIA A100 GPUs. The performance of the supercomputer was 8.2 PFLOPS. The system will be used by scientists and researchers in climate, weather and ocean modeling.

The US Navy also upgraded its most powerful supercomputer, Narwhal. It now has 308,480 cores (+18,176) and 13.5 PFLOPS performance.
