To fire, the gun requires a short-term supply of high voltage and current, which cannot be provided by a simple connection to the electrical network: the projectile accelerates to 2.5 km/s.
First of all, such a development should withstand anti-ship hypersonic missiles.
Railguns will be able to fire high-energy projectiles with a frequency of at least 50 rounds per second and will become the main line of defense against promising anti-ship weapons.
