The French company Alstom announced the launch of the world's first hydrogen train, Coradia iLint. His first trip
This Regional Train Is Blowing Out Only Steamand water condensate, working with low noise level. According to Alstom representatives, the company's goal is to contribute to the creation of the most environmentally friendly railway network in the world.
“Emission-free mobility is one“one of the most important goals for a sustainable future,” said Henri Poupart-Lafarge, CEO and Chairman of the Board of Alstom. “The world’s first hydrogen train, the Coradia iLint, is a great example of sustainable mobility.”
Just 1kg of hydrogen fuel is as efficient as 4.5kg of diesel. Hydrogen trains will gradually replace the 15 models currently running in Lower Saxony.
The range of Coradia iLint is 1,000 km.This means that just one tank of hydrogen a day will keep it running. The train moves at a speed of no more than 140 km/h, although the usual speeds on the line are much lower, from 80 to 120 km/h.
The project is supported by the German government, andThe development of Coradia iLint is funded by the country's National Innovation Program for Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Technologies (NIP).
According to CNN, the trains' next destination will be Frankfurt. 27 trains have already been ordered for the region.
