As for me, the weakest point of a smart home wasand remains climate control. At least in Russia. In the West, there has long been (and absorbed by Google) at least a Nest thermostat, and besides it, there are a lot of cool options for making a comfortable atmosphere at home. And now try to imagine how to make friends with a smart house with central heating in an ordinary socket-nine-story building? Well, so that in winter it somehow opens the batteries there by itself, twists it back and skillfully monitors the indicators besides the temperature. Here's the same thing. You won't get anything.
And yet, some options for smart climate controltechnologies appear in our country. Air conditioners are actively beginning to be equipped with Wi-Fi modules, and rare models are also friends with assistants. All kinds of washes, cleanings and humidifiers are also readily controlled from a smartphone. Even smart heaters have appeared and brought with them three main advantages of this kind of models: they have noticeably prettier, save money and are cleverly tuned.
We are certainly not in Europe where people are nowforced to painfully bargain with a wallet and conscience for every extra degree of room temperature. But if a smart device is capable of lowering the utility bill, then why not take advantage of this too?

As for me, one of the coolest smartheaters are now produced under the Joule brand. Not the cheapest option, but one of the most beautiful. In any device, I always really appreciate the design, so I do not really approve when smart heaters take on the format of traditional oil heaters. Unless with a curtsey towards fashionable now minimalism and chopped lines. But Joule is another matter. In fact, this is a sheet of tempered glass, which heats the room very powerfully. And thanks to the control from a smartphone, it works delicately, and not as heaters used to do it - burning out the room air to the last molecule of moisture.

Design and placement
Like I said, the design is super minimalist. The Joule eco-heater is a sandwich of two stretched sheets of tempered glass less than a centimeter thick with a small control box on the back. All the heating filling is hidden between. There are five colors to choose from: black, white, silver, gold and green. The first three are universal options for modern interiors. They look great. The last two are very niche in my opinion, but is it better to have more options to choose from?

There are no buttons, sensors, displays on the case at all.Only the power key on the block, the rest from the smartphone. I will write this as a plus, because I see no point in duplicating control for smart technology. Let better design be simpler and cleaner.

The only thing in the exterior besides glass- Sturdy aluminum legs. The cable is long enough so it's no problem to "reach out" to the nearest outlet. However, the kit also includes a wall mount, Joule can be hung vertically or horizontally.

With this design, two mounting options andJoule heating area is suitable not only for an apartment or a country house, but also for a small business in the service sector. For example, if it is cool in winter in a barbershop, nail salon or facial massage, but you don’t want to look for a new room for rent because of this.
Heating and safety
The front side of the heater is hot, even very hot.Not so much that you get hurt from an accidental touch, but you probably won't like to lean on it with your bare skin to warm up. Hence the warnings in the instructions about children and pets. However, the French bulldog and the pug, on the contrary, liked it: they are happy to lie down next to the Joule to sleep and lean on it at the same time. In friedness after such tricks were not seen.

The heater itself has two systems.protection: from overheating and tipping sensor. Given the low height and fairly reliable legs, I do not see any particular risk of falling Joule. It takes a lot of effort to turn the heater off. However, once the dogs were fussing around him and the rollover sensor was triggered by the rocking. The application on the smartphone immediately turned on the siren and showed the corresponding notification.

I already wanted to write it down in the cons of the product,as it is not possible to disable these notifications in advance. It's not pleasant to hear howling in the middle of the night if the animals play out. However, during several weeks of testing, a false positive occurred only once. No matter how much the pets rubbed against the heater, or when I touched it with my foot, the sensor no longer worked if the Joule remained standing on its own two feet.
Management and settings
Joule works in tandem with the Perenio app.Available on the App Store and Google Play. To connect, you need to create an account, specify the password for the Wi-Fi network (required 2.4 Hz), and after that the heater will be ready for operation. In general, the setup process is no different from any other smart technology.

Joule can work in classic modeheating the room, which is called for all the money, or in the application you can activate the climate control. Then it will maintain the set temperature, dynamically changing the power or even stopping heating when the desired parameters are reached. The application shows both the current air temperature and the target one.

Of the minuses, I'm not sure about the accuracy of the measurements.Still, the sensor is on the wire. This is better than if it were placed on the case, but due to its proximity to the heater, the readings will still differ from the temperature in the center of the room or at the opposite end. Unfortunately, I do not have any reference measuring device at home, the accuracy of which I would be sure. However, three gadgets with a temperature measurement function show data with a spread of 4 degrees.
What does this mean in practice?Something like with smart scales: you should not think that you get perfectly accurate absolute numbers, but you can follow the relative indicators. Let's say that when using the Joule, it seems to you that the optimal climate control goal is 24 degrees. This is what you need to focus on. I don’t see anything wrong if, at the same time, the actual temperature in the room is a couple of degrees higher or lower. The main thing is that you know that it is most pleasant to be at home when 24 is selected on the heater.

Also, through the application, you can set the timer withcountdown, so that the heater only works for a certain time, set a work schedule and see the cost of electricity right now, or in the history of use by day. Unfortunately, only the total energy consumption for knocking is displayed. In principle, at a basic level, this allows you to estimate the cost of heating a room. However, I’ll throw in an idea: the developers could go even further and provide for the ability to specify the cost of electricity and set the timings of a two-tariff meter. However, isn't it too nerve-wracking to watch your money being burned in real time?

Power and heating
Joule power consumption is 700W.The device heats up quickly, the glass cools down at a moderate pace. It turns out quite economically, with practically no idle energy costs. The declared heating area is up to 25 square meters. I assume that this is true, but it was not possible to check in a room of this size. For a very spacious kitchen-living room with an area of almost 40 meters, the heater's power is not enough, but in a small room of 17 squares I can say for sure: the air warms up quickly.

Conclusions and results
If you choose a smart heater, buy exactlyThe Joule is worth it for the design, as well as being wall-mountable in addition to being placed on the floor. In terms of smart functionality and control from a smartphone, there are still no revelations and unique functionality, but the product aesthetics definitely distinguishes Joule from others. In general, the heater turned out to be convenient, efficient and without problems in terms of ease of use. So I recommend buying.
