An archaeological mission from New York University excavated the site of the Temple of Ramesses II in
The finds cover over a thousand years of historyancient state, say representatives of the Ministry of Antiquities of Egypt. The oldest of them are over 4,300 years old. In addition to mummified ram heads, archaeologists have also found a group of goats, dogs, cows, deer and an ostrich. The finds were made on the territory of a previously unknown warehouse located in the northern part of the temple.

Researchers believe that a large numberfound animals, especially rams associated with religious rituals during the worship of rams in Abydos. Perhaps the mummified remains were left in the temple in honor of Ramses II by the millennium after the death of the pharaoh.

The second discovery of the mission is associated with the discoveryancient building. It features a unique architectural design and huge thick walls about five meters wide. Researchers believe that further study of the ruins of this building will allow us to learn more about the architectural appearance of the city in the era of the ancient kingdom before it was rebuilt by Ramesses II.
In parallel, archaeologists are working to studytemple of Ramses II. They managed to partially restore the appearance of the northern wall surrounding the temple. Among other things, they managed to find parts of destroyed statues, the remains of ancient trees, clothes and skin. Researchers will continue to study the history of this ancient settlement.
