According to the team, the newly identifiedthe monster was nine to 10 meters long. This is the largest type of megaraptor, a group of carnivorous dinosaurs that lived in what is now South America.

He lived about 70 million years ago, towards the end of the Cretaceous period, in an area that was a rainforest. There was no ridge of the Andes and glaciers.

The killer reptile had two sharp, curved claws on each front paw, up to 40 cm long. 

According to Fernando Novas of the LaboratoryComparative Anatomy of the Argentine Museum of Natural Sciences, Maip macrothorax was one of the last megaraptors to inhabit the Earth before the dinosaurs became extinct about 66 million years ago.
