The Thunderbolt 4 interface, announced a year ago, did not lead to significant changes compared to Thunderbolt 3.But
What is known
An Intel manager tweeted the episodephotos from his trip to the company's research center in Israel. One of them accidentally captured the characteristics of the Thunderbolt 5 interface, which had not yet been officially presented.
The photo was quickly deleted, but observantusers were able to save it. Thus, from the source's publication, it is clear that the new interface will have a data transfer speed of 80 gigabits per second (Gbps), which is twice the speed of Thunderbolt 3 and 4.
The information leak also indicates that the USB-C port will remain, i.e. Intel will provide the desired compatibility with older interfaces.
Doubling the speed of Thunderbolt 5 is achieved by switching from NRZ encoding (allows 0 or 1, i.e. 1 bit) to PAM-3 (allows 3 bits).
