Time to update your smartphone: WhatsApp stopped working on older iPhones

What changed

App version 2.21.50, which is now available in the App Store, requires iOS 10 or higher to run. And support for iOS 9 has officially ended.

The last time the messenger made similarchanges in February last year. Then support for iOS 8 was discontinued. Now the innovation will affect iPhone 4S owners. If you have such an ancient smartphone lying around, you will no longer be able to use WhatsApp on it.

WhatsApp's support page states that the requirements to install the app are now:

  • Android running OS 4.0.3 and later
  • iPhone running iOS 10 or later
  • Phones running KaiOS 2.5.1 and later, including JioPhone and JioPhone 2
