Triton Winged Mini Submarine Will Dive 4,000 Meters To Explore The Titanic

The Triton's body is crafted from acrylic, and the ultra-wide-screen window gives passengers a panoramic view of the world below.

water without any optical distortion. Passengers can move freely inside the submarine with comfortable pressure, as on the surface of the Earth.

In the past, Triton has created its spheres forunderwater travel by casting two separate acrylic half-domes from plexiglass and gluing them together with invisible glue, but in recent years she has created them from a single plate that needs to be heated and then shaped into the desired shape. This is the only way to create a bubble the same size as the one used in the 6-seat 3300/6 unveiled late last year, and certainly the only way to guarantee strength, thickness and optical excellence.

Triton 13000/2 Titanic Explorer will be the mostthe deepest acrylic bubble submarine ever built. It will be able to dive to a depth of 4,000 m, making it the only transparent sphere that can carry several passengers to the Titanic crash site at about 3,800 m.

The new submarine has another unusualfeature: gull wings that extend from the top of the gull. They fold on the sides of the bubble to form a hydrodynamic shape as it descends or rises, meaning the journey to Titanic-level depths will only take two hours, significantly faster than previously possible.

When the wings go up and out, theyextendable to a width of 6 meters: this has several advantages as the wings are equipped with camera mounts and lights. And if you wish, you can raise the wings so as not to hurt fragile corals or shipwrecks. You can remove the wings altogether if you need to crawl into a narrow passage on the submarine.

Titanic Explorer will have enough chargebattery and life support for expeditions with two people lasting more than 12 hours. Interestingly, it only requires 40 kWh of battery. It uses four main and four auxiliary electric direct-drive thrusters, each up to 5.5 kW. It weighs 12,000 kg and measures 4.45 x 2.75 x 3 m when folded.
