TSMC's new pricing policy will make 2023 smartphones more expensive

From year to year, the average cost of smartphones is constantly growing. One of the growth drivers is TSMC –

the world's leading chip manufacturer, regularlyincreasing the cost of its products. This happened in 2020 and 2021, and now history is repeating itself again: the company announced that from January 2023 the cost of chips using popular technological processes will rise by 6%. And this comes as TMSC's expected revenue in 2022 promises to be a record high.

According to Digitimes, the reason for thiswere rising electricity prices and the need to increase production capacity to meet long-term obligations. Chip shipments are said to have so far been hampered by the effects of shortages, which is causing lead times for some products to still reach 30 months. We, as end consumers, are threatened with another increase in the average bill for the purchase of smartphones, computers and other electronics.
