Twitter Gives Away Blue Checkmarks For $8: Social Network Takes Over By Fake Celebrities, Even Musk Has Been Hacked

Twitter's New Owner Elon Musk, Howand promised, launched an updated Twitter Blue subscription for $8 per month. The new features have not yet been officially launched, they are only being tested. But some users have already received the update and have created a stir on the social network.

What does it mean?

If previously only those who received the “blue tick”celebrities, famous companies and politicians, now anyone can get it - you just need to pay for a subscription. Today, the only advantage that Twitter Blue gives is that very check mark, but in the future they also promise fewer ads, the ability to publish long videos and priority ranking of posts.

However, everyone is accustomed to the fact that the “blue tick” is givenVIP users only: previously, it meant that the profile was not fake and its owner had been verified. Taking advantage of this, fake "celebrities" began to fill the social network with disinformation.

A striking example was the story of the fake TobyMaguire (Tobey Maguire). One user with a blue checkmark simply changed their name to the actor, added his photo, and posted about the release of Spider-Man 4, starring Maguire and director Sam Raimi, on May 3, 2024. Within hours, the news had spread like wildfire across the online world, racking up tens of thousands of retweets and over 100,000 likes.

And another user thus gave himself awayfor Musk himself, posting the following: “There’s nothing better than waking up and drinking a cup of your own fresh, fragrant pee. Such a refreshing way to start the day. And it’s scientifically proven to help brain cells grow. If you want to be like me, drink your own pee.” His account was temporarily suspended, but the tweet managed to go viral.
