Two former FSB officers convicted of extorting bribes in bitcoins

Two former FSB employees were sentenced to 9 and 12 years in prison for extorting a bribe in bitcoins. They demanded

cryptocurrency from the son of the ex-head of the state publishing house Izvestia.

According to RBC, convicted former FSB investigator Alexei Kolbov and ex-head of the investigative department Sergei Belousov were stripped of the ranks of major and captain of justice.

The defendants were detained in the spring of 2019.They extorted 65 million rubles in bitcoins from Galumov's son. He was threatened that new episodes might appear in his father's case. It is reported that the criminals managed to get 3 million rubles.

RIA Novosti also reported that the court confiscatedthe defendants have 4.1 bitcoins. The lawyer who spoke with the publication said that this is a precedent, and it is not yet clear what will be done with the cryptocurrency. The state can transfer the right to claim the cryptocurrency to a third party, and it will then withdraw the bitcoins.
