UAE allocates over $2 billion to purchase 96 missiles for THAAD air defense system

The government of the United Arab Emirates wants to receive almost a hundred missiles for the system

What is known

The Emirates allocated $2.25 billion for the purchase.As part of the contract, the United States will supply 96 missiles to THAAD, fire control stations and related hardware. The reason for this decision was that the neighbors of the UAE are beginning to build up military power. In particular, we are talking about Iran.

Note that the United Arab Emirates isfirst buyer of THAAD missile systems outside the United States. Now the system is already in use in South Korea, Israel and Guam, and in a few years it will be deployed in Saudi Arabia.

By the way, the Emirates are able to boast of a powerfulair defense system. In addition to THAAD, the American MIM-104 Patriot PAC 3 and the Russian Pantsir-S1 are in service. A contract was also signed for the supply of South Korean Cheolmae anti-aircraft missile systems, known as KM-SAM or M-SAM.
