Uber and Hyundai show four-seater air taxi model at CES 2020

The American service Uber and the Korean automaker Hyundai announced cooperation as part of the Uber program

Elevate and showed a joint creation at CES 2020 in Las Vegas - a full-scale model of the Hyundai S-A1 electric air vehicle.

What it is

This is an all-electric vehicle concept with vertical take-off and landing. The air taxi is designed for 4 people, and there is still enough space for luggage in the cabin.

The concept is designed for speeds up to 290 km/h, heightflight range of 300–600 meters and range up to 100 km. The taxi is equipped with a set of eight propellers and propellers of different sizes, which are less noisy. If any element of the system fails, a distributed electrical power plant is used, which drives several propellers.

It only takes 5-7 minutes to fully charge the Hyundai S-A1.

First, the air taxi will be controlled by a pilot, thenwhereby transport will switch to fully autonomous control. Test flights are planned to begin this year, and full-fledged taxi service will begin in 2023. The first cities to launch the service will be Dallas, Los Angeles and Melbourne.

Hyundai takes care of the production of vehicles, and Uber takes care of navigation, communication with customers, transportation to take-off/landing locations, etc.
