UK may transfer Harpoon and Storm Shadow long-range missiles to Ukraine - The Times

This week, Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky visited the UK, after which the Prime Minister

Rishi Sunak has promised to send more military aid to Ukraine. According to The Times, it may also include long-range missiles Harpoon and Storm Shadow.

What to expect

Harpoon missiles cost £1.2msterling per unit and have a maximum flight range of 240 km. These are anti-ship missiles that Ukraine has already received from Denmark. They can be adapted for launch from trucks, but are less accurate in destroying ground targets. Storm Shadows cost twice as much, but can destroy targets at a distance of more than 560 kilometers. Although the export version of these missiles has a shorter range.

“Rishi Sunak promised to send Ukraine moremilitary aid following President Zelensky's visit to the UK this week. There are now discussions about whether they should include Harpoon or Storm Shadows air-to-surface anti-ship missiles,” The Times writes.

Thus, the Western allies softened theirposition on the transfer of offensive weapons that Ukraine can use to attack weapons depots in the temporarily occupied territories. For example, the United States previously included GLSDB missiles with a range of up to 150 km in the assistance package.
