The under-screen Face ID system will appear on at least the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max - no earlier than 2025

At one time, the iPhone 15 Pro smartphone was credited with an under-screen Face ID system, but analyst Ross Young is sure that

this technology will not appear in the next few years.

What to expect

Just recently, Young himself said that Apple would releaseits first iPhone with Face ID under the display in 2024. But he now says plans have been pushed back until at least 2025. This is due to problems with the sensor.

Young's revised timeline contradicts reportKorean publication The Elec, which claims that Face ID under the display will be launched on the iPhone 16 Pro next year. Yang tends to be accurate, so the technology is likely at least two years away.

Thus, the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max may become the first smartphones with an under-display system. The analyst also believes that the display will still have a hole-punch for the front camera.
