UNESCO wants to downgrade the Great Barrier Reef: it is endangered

UNESCO has recommended that the Great Barrier Reef be included in the list of World Heritage Sites that

This decision was made due to the fact that Australia "did not make every effort to reduce the negative impact on the reef." 

The idea to downgrade the Great Barrier Reefsupported by Australian Professors Ove Hogh-Guldberg and Terry Hughes, as well as Professor Andre Grottoli, President of the International Coral Reef Society, Professor Johan Rockström, Director of the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research, and Dr Sylvia Earle, oceanographer and Chair of Blue, whose mission is to ensure 30% ocean protection by 2030.

Unfortunately, in recent years, the reef has sufferedsignificant losses, mainly due to global warming. Protecting the reef requires effective global change, in particular the reduction of carbon dioxide emissions. However, Australia has yet to contribute to this global effort.

Australia's Federal Environment Minister, Soussan Ley, said Australia could notOne to take responsibility for global processes.
