Unique Airbus Zephyr drone crashes after 64 days of continuous flight, one day before historical record

The Airbus Zephyr unmanned aerial vehicle has stopped a flight that lasted 64 days.

Unfortunately, the drone was unable to land, andcrashed in Arizona. The last flight, lasting for 64 days, was the longest and allowed Airbus to test the Zephyr 8 modification.

The drone is powered by solar energy.enough to stay in the air for several tens of days. He left for his final flight on 15 June. On August 19, dispatchers lost contact with the unmanned aerial vehicle. Zephyr usually flies at an average altitude of 20 km, but on August 19 he made an S-shaped route at an altitude of 15 km over the Arizona desert, after which he ran into problems.

Zephyr hit 100 km/h and started fastlose altitude. The rate of vertical descent reached almost 1400 m per minute. An Airbus spokesman said the drone "encountered circumstances" that caused the flight to be terminated. Now experts are analyzing data obtained over 64 days of UAV operation.

By the way, the drone did not have enough days to set a historical record for the duration of the flight. Now it belongs to the Cessna 12 Skyhawk - 64 days and 22 hours.
