US Army chooses between Golden Eagle MK2, Swift and Skydio R47 drones to replace Skydio RQ-28A

What is known

The US military carried out another stagetesting of an unmanned aerial vehicle, which will be put into service in a few years. Quadcopter tests were held in the state of Georgia. Vantage Robotics, Skydio and Teal Drones presented their prototype devices - Swift, R47 and Golden Eagle MK2, respectively.

Other companies also showed prototypes, but inin the end, the military selected only three firms, which we wrote about above. By the way, in total, the US Army received applications from 33 companies, of which 23 were eliminated immediately.

Unmanned aerial vehicle testingpassed under the leadership of the command of the US Army and representatives of the Combat Maneuvers Laboratory. Drones have demonstrated their efficiency in night operation, the ability to avoid obstacles and the operating time without recharging.

Detailed specifications for the Swift, R47, and Golden Eagle MK2 have not been released, but the new drones should outperform the RQ-28A in terms of run time, handling, and obstacle avoidance.

RQ-28As began entering service in December2022. Skydio will donate 480 drones to the US Army this year. At the same time, the military must decide on a replacement for the quadrocopter by 2026.
