The US has banned the sale and import of Huawei and ZTE equipment due to fears of spying on Americans

The US Federal Communications Commission has adopted final rules that prohibit the sale or import

telecommunications equipment from some Chinese manufacturers.

What is known?

Huawei and ZTE, their subsidiaries, were bannedas well as Chinese surveillance equipment maker Dahua Technology, video surveillance firm Hangzhou Hikvision Digital Technology and telecom company Hytera Communications.

The commission explained the decision as a risk to US national security and concerns that Beijing could use Chinese technology companies to spy on Americans.

This happened after March 2021Five Chinese companies were included in a so-called "blacklist" as posing a national security threat under a 2019 law aimed at protecting US communications networks.

Huawei declined to comment.
