US bans sales and imports of Huawei and ZTE equipment over fears of spying on Americans

The US Federal Communications Commission has adopted final rules that prohibit the sale or import of

telecommunications equipment of some Chinese manufacturers.

What is known?

Under the ban were Huawei and ZTE, their "daughters", andalso Chinese surveillance equipment manufacturer Dahua Technology, video surveillance firm Hangzhou Hikvision Digital Technology, and telecommunications company Hytera Communications.

The commission explained the decision as a risk to US national security and fears that Beijing could use Chinese technology companies to spy on the Americans.

This happened after in March 2021five Chinese companies have been blacklisted as a national security threat under a 2019 law aimed at protecting US communications networks.

Huawei declined to comment.
