The United States has long been working ondevelopment of the LRHW hypersonic weapon. The system is expected to be installed on the destroyer USS Zumwalt in 2025. Submarine Virginia will receive hypersonic weapons by 2029.

Late last year, the US Army received its firstTyphoon ground missile system developed by Lockheed Martin. It can use Tomahawk missiles with a range of up to 1800 km and Standard Missile-6 (SM-6).

The Typhoon is based on a verticallaunch of the Mk 41. Lockheed Martin shipped a Typhoon battery with four launchers and ground equipment to the military in early December to prepare for the exercise.

If all goes according to plan, Typhoon will be acceptedinto service at the end of 2023. It is possible that in the future the system could use a new version of the SM-6 missile, which can reach hypersonic speed. It is in development and is called SM-6 Block IB.
