US Navy will deploy hypersonic gliders in submarines

Hypersonic gliders are a type of weapon capable of descending to a target at speeds up to Mach 5. Military

believe that gliders will be able to easily pass through both existing and future missile defense systems.

C-HGB airframes are being developed by Dynetics Technical Solutions as part of the CPS (Conventional Prompt Strike) program and in the interests of the US Department of Defense.

It is planned that the launch vehicle will lift the glider into the air - after separation from it, the C-HGB will be able to accelerate to a speed of about Mach 5 and attack the target.

The new airframe and booster will have to go into service with the U.S. Navy in 2028. Armament will be installed on a submarine type "Virginia."

Earlier in the United States announced a tender to create a systemprotection against hypersonic weapons. The United States Missile Defense Agency (MDA) will develop the contract, and applications for participation in the tender will be collected until March 19, 2020 inclusive.
