US providers are being sued for “failing to stop movie piracy”

Verizon Wireless, AT&T and Comcast have been hit with copyright lawsuits alleging that they

Internet providers have deliberately contributedviolating the copyrights of its clients, the lawsuits allege. The plaintiffs claim they have sent hundreds of thousands of notices of specific copyright infringement to Verizon, AT&T and Comcast. For example, they claim to have sent more than 100,000 notifications to Comcast about illegal downloads of the song “I Feel Pretty” using its services. The lawsuit demands that Internet service providers be held accountable for failing to investigate.

The ISPs thus did not directly infringe the plaintiffs' copyrights, as they had the right to terminate the accounts of infringing customers, the lawsuit alleges.
