USA to test equipment for tracking hypersonic missile launches on ISS

We are talking about equipment  Prototype Infrared Payload: it operates in infrared and will be on board

Northrop Grumman's American cargo ship Cygnus, which will fly to the station in July.

Agency representatives believe that in this way they will be able to collect the data necessary to develop equipment for detecting hypersonic and ballistic missile launches.

In the future, it is planned to install this equipment on low-orbit missile attack warning satellites. 

In June 2020, Northrop Grumman received a $ 13.8 million contract from the Space Development Agency for this experiment.
