USA to test equipment for tracking hypersonic missile launches on ISS

We are talking about the Prototype Infrared Payload equipment: it works in the infrared range and will be on board

Northrop Grumman's American cargo ship Cygnus, which will fly to the station in July.

Agency representatives believe that in this way they will be able to collect the data necessary to develop equipment for detecting launches of hypersonic and ballistic missiles.

In the future, this equipment is planned to be installed on low-orbit missile attack warning satellites.

In June 2020, Northrop Grumman received a $ 13.8 million contract from the Space Development Agency for this experiment.
