USB-IF Announces USB4 Specifications: Up to 40 Gb / s Bandwidth and Backward Compatibility

The USB Implementers Forum organization has revealed the main features of the new USB4 (aka USB 4.0) interface.

What is known

New

the interface is based on the USB Type-C connector and itprovides data transfer speeds up to 40 Gbit/s. This figure is twice that of the current USB3. It also has compatibility with previous generations of USB, including USB 3.2, USB 2.0 and of course Thunderbolt 3. In addition, the new version of the standard optimally distributes bandwidth while transmitting video and data simultaneously, supports up to eight DisplayPort 1.2 lanes and fast charging of devices with power up to 100 W.

When to expect

There is no exact information when devices with USB4 will appear on the market. Presumably, they should be expected only at the end of next year.
