According to a new report published by the Centeron Combating Digital Hate (CCDH), “reluctant virgins”, or in other words “incels”, are stepping up their aggressive rhetoric on the forums. The number of keywords related to acts of mass violence on the forum has grown by 59% over the past year, while the approval of sexual violence against women on the site has been almost ubiquitous. CCDH researchers analyzed moremillion posts in the last 18 months on the internet's leading incel forum. The report refrains from specifying the name of the forum, so as not to attract new users to the site, and calls it the “Forum of Incelomans.” This community, the report claims, is at the center of a network of "incelosphere" sites. The report links this so-called network to dozens of suicides and at least one mass murder.
Nearly nine out of 10 messages analyzedCCDH were in support of sexual violence against women, with references to rape occurring once every 29 minutes. In total, about 20% of all messages on the site contained misogynistic, racist, anti-Semitic statements.
"Incels are dangerous to themselves and to others,"– CCDH CEO Imran Ahmed said in a statement. “They are an example of the types of modern digital communities based on malignant ideologies, pseudoscience, disinformation and hate that are spread and created by unregulated online companies to cause serious harm to our society.”
According to Ahmed, these various incel groups are like "brothers in arms in the war against women."
