Scientists studied 3,500 people:21% of them had type 2 diabetes, 15% had prediabetes, and the remaining 64% were healthy. It turned out that nerve fiber damage in people with prediabetes was 8% higher, in diabetic patients it was 8% higher than in prediabetics, and 14% higher than in healthy people.
The severity of neuropathy correlated withhow long a person lived with diabetes and how high glycated hemoglobin and blood sugar levels were recorded two hours after a meal.
