The Research with Perseverance project is being created inmainly based on images taken by the rover from different viewpoints. Also on the 3D tour are additional images from the HiRISE (High Resolution Imaging Experiment) camera aboard the Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter.
“This is the best reconstruction of howlooks like Mars, ”said Parker Abercrombie, a senior software engineer who leads software development at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Southern California. The Mars Public Engagement team hired Abercrombie and his colleagues to create a publicly accessible project experience for engaging in the science and exploration of Mars.
The team plans to update the site regularly, adding new views from the spacecraft and rover, as well as new landmarks as they are discovered.
