Watch the Earth rise over the Moon from the Orion spacecraft

The unmanned Orion spacecraft showed the Earth rising on the day of the critical engine launch in

 moon orbital time. Five days earlier, the Orion spacecraft launched the first phase of the Artemis mission—Artemis-1.

The footage shows the Earth slowly appearingbehind the Moon as Orion flies overhead. The moon is completely invisible because it is in the shadow. This makes our planet appear to emerge from a black void.

The video was filmed in 13:05 GMT on Monday, about six minutes after Orion regained contact with NASA's deep space antenna network following its lunar maneuver.

Artemis 1 mission tests Orion's readinessand NASA's huge Space Launch System rocket to future missions of the Artemis program, which will continue with the Artemis 2 crewed mission around the Moon as early as 2024.
