It seems that CD Projekt will continue to develop the game The Witcher franchise and have already signed a new agreement
What is known
Polish developer announces new contract withthe author of The Witcher books, Andrzej Sapkowski. The new agreement allows CD Project to use the universe for video games, graphic stories, board games, and themed merchants.
Details of the contract are not disclosed, but the companyclarified that the agreement "satisfies and fully clarifies the needs and expectations of both parties." In addition, the developers set the framework for future collaboration.
“We have always admired the work of AndrzejSapkowski is the main source of inspiration for the CD PROJEKT RED team. I believe that today marks a new stage in our future relations, ”said Adam Kichinsky, President and CEO of CD PROJEKT.
In 2018, Sapkowski quarreled with CD Projekt, demanding $ 16 million from the company. Initially, the parties agreed on a one-time sale of rights, and the author of the universe refused a percentage of sales of games, because he did not believe in the success of the project. As a result, games began to generate profits that did not fall into the writer's pocket. Then CD Project decided to stay in good relations with Sapkowski and paid him compensation, but less than the requested amount.
Now the writer and CD Projekt have a new contract. Firstly, the fans had hope for a new part of The Witcher. In September 2019, the studio announced that it was moving to a “double franchise” model, and would simultaneously develop The Witcher and Cyberpunk. Secondly, now developers will not have to spend extra time on resolving financial issues.</ p>
