Scientists have designed and synthesized a series of new fluorophores, a type of chemical compound that glows.
This means that they can be used forcreating new materials that increase the brightness and quality of displays of smartphones, computers and TVs. An article describing the study and its results appeared in the journal Dyes and Pigments.
According to the leader of the research team,Egor Verbitsky, an employee of the Laboratory of Medicinal Chemistry and Advanced Organic Materials of the Ural Federal University, physicists knew in advance that the introduction of cyano groups into fluorophores could lead to an improvement in the properties and overall efficiency of OLED.
The luminescence intensity increased up to 20 times, andthe brightness of the emitted light is up to 75 times. Such results were shown by several prototype devices. At the same time, connections are inexpensive, so devices will also become cheaper.
In previous research work, chemistsshowed that one of the most promising compounds as an electron-attracting part in device systems is the pyrazine ring. It is a compound of nitrogen, hydrogen and carbon, which has an electron-withdrawing effect.
At the same time, some OLEDs tend to exhibit thermally activated delayed fluorescence (TADF). This is evidenced by an increase in the fluorescence lifetime.
